Dear Mum,
We heard today that we are to leave for the Old Dart at the end of the week. This is the first time that they told us and how Miss Green heard last week before we knew ourselves is a mystery that only she can explain. It is rather funny that people so far away know before we do. Many thanks for sending the tin of cake we ought to get it alright on board. I got your letter alright today and Gorries last week. I am sorry I have not time to write to him too, but I am a bit pushed. Good-bye and best wishes from your son
